It is SO hard to believe that a week from tomorrow I head out on this trip! It's been many months in the making, and I think I almost feel kinda ready for it... :)
I'm working on my packing list so I don't forget anything, and I've made good progress there. I've also made good progress in the last week or so on the two talks I'll be giving while there. One is on the Challenges Facing Single Men and Women (ironic, eh?) and the other is on insights into the Greek and Hebrew.
I'm (naturally) most comfortable with the languages one, with the exception that I have no idea if it'll make sense when translated to Spanish! I'll be going over Psalm 23 (Hebrew) and Ephesians 2:8-10 (Greek), and most of what I do is showing extra nuances that we don't get in our English translations. I really don't know if that'll make any sense whatsoever when someone translates that into Spanish. But, I'm trusting God that at least someone will get something out of it!
The other one, on challenges for single Christians, has been significantly harder for me to write, because I'm not writing at all out of my experience. I got married at 21 and was seriously dating my husband since I was 18 - I never really lived a single adult life. So between a few of us married people brainstorming ideas, a lot of research online, and asking some single friends of mine, I think it'll be a pretty decent talk. I'm giving it with another guy (who, incidentally, has been married way longer than me) and so far I've done all the prep work. I'm hoping we can at least touch base soon to make sure we're on the same page, and figure out logistical things like who's speaking on which parts and all that.
Other than that, I think most of the trip details are worked out!
Please be in prayer for our entire team - Don, Ben, Ed, Linda, Caleb, Christina, and me. Caleb and Christina are already in Venezuela, and the rest of us will be traveling middle of next week.
One more week!
